Gili Air is the closest of the three Gilis to the Lombok mainland, but the journey from the airport is still a half-day move. A taxi from Lombok airport to Bangsal or Teluk Nare takes about 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours [1]. The sea crossing from Bangsal is only about 15 minutes [2].

When does the same-day route stop working?
The guide advises arriving at Bangsal or Teluk Nare by 16:00, because transport stops in the late afternoon [3]. Subtract the road time from that cut-off and you have the latest time your flight can land. A plane that lands after midday leaves very little room.

What are the options for an afternoon landing?
You have two clear choices. Stay one night on the Lombok side and take the first boat in the morning, or book a chartered speedboat. From Teluk Nare, a charter reaches the Gilis in 15 to 30 minutes, and it is booked shortly beforehand, normally through your hotel [4].

Allow around two hours by road to the harbour, a wait for the boat and a short crossing. Treat the whole trip as a half-day move and not as a quick transfer.
Can I reach Gili Air the same day if I land in the afternoon?
Only if you reach the harbour before the late-afternoon cut-off. A landing after midday leaves little room, so plan a night on the Lombok side or arrange a charter through your hotel.
