How we build cost and time figures

You plan with ringgit and hours, so we show where each estimate comes from.

IndonesiaQuest figures are planning aids built from entered or sourced numbers, shown as ranges with dates. This page explains how we build cost scenarios, how we treat drive times and how our tools calculate, so you can adjust each estimate to your own trip.

How are cost scenarios built?

A cost scenario starts with inputs: either numbers you type into a tool, or numbers we take from a named source. Sourced numbers show the source link and the date we checked them.

We present ranges only when a source supports them. Where we have no source, we describe the cost in general terms and invite you to ask a licensed agency for a quote.

How do exchange rates work?

When a figure is converted between ringgit and rupiah, the page states the rate and the date used. Rates move daily, so treat any conversion as a snapshot.

Our tools let you enter your own rate. That keeps the result tied to the rate you will actually get.

How should you read drive-time ranges?

Drive-time ranges come from operator or map sources, and we note the date. Real journeys vary with traffic, weather, road works, stops and the pace of your group.

For a family with children or older parents, add rest stops and keep the first and last days light. Ask your driver for current road conditions before each long leg.

How do the tools calculate?

Our planning tools run in your browser. The formulas are shown on the tool page, so you can see exactly how an answer is reached.

Because calculation happens on your device, the numbers you enter stay in your browser. They reach us only if you choose to share them in a WhatsApp message.

How are results updated?

We review inputs when a source changes and when readers report a difference. The date beside each figure tells you how recent it is. Our editorial policy describes the wider review routine.

What should you do with the results?

Use the figures to compare options and set a sensible budget range. A final price comes from a licensed agency’s quote, which reflects your dates, party and choices.

When you are ready, the contact page shows how to send us your brief. Read the disclaimer for how to use planning estimates, or start with our guides for worked examples.

What does a worked example look like?

Suppose you compare two ways to reach the same base. You enter your group size, number of nights and a daily food budget in ringgit, then add the transport cost from a source you trust.

The tool adds the parts, shows each line so you can see what drives the total, and lets you change one input at a time. If the faster route costs more, you can see whether the saved hours justify it for your group.

Then you take the result to a licensed agency and ask how its quote compares.
