Room and bed types decoder for Indonesian listings
The listing says deluxe, superior or twin, and you want to know who actually sleeps where.
IndonesiaQuest Editorial · Updated 20 October 2026
Read the bed setup first and the room name second. Twin means two single beds, double means one bed for two, and names like deluxe or superior change from hotel to hotel. When a listing is unclear, ask for the bed setup, the maximum occupancy and any extra-bed rules in writing.
How do you read bed types?
Bed words shape your night more than any room name. Use the table to decode them, then confirm any that matter to your party.
| Listing word | Meaning | Confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Twin | Two separate single beds | Can the beds be pushed together? |
| Double | One bed for two people | Bed width, if a couple needs space |
| Queen or king | A larger double bed | Size varies by hotel, so ask |
| Extra bed | A roll-away or folding bed added to the room | Is it free, and does it fit? |
| Sofa bed | A sofa that converts to a bed | Comfort for an adult, not just a child |
| Connecting | Two rooms with an internal door | Are they guaranteed adjoining? |
Two adults sharing as friends, or a parent with a teenage child, tend to be more comfortable in twin beds. Couples and families with small children tend to prefer a large bed plus an extra bed.
What do room names really tell you?
Standard, superior, deluxe, premier and suite are marketing steps within a single hotel. Across hotels, the same word covers very different rooms. In villas, a one-bedroom villa and a two-bedroom villa differ by the number of separate sleeping rooms, plus the private pool or garden.
So compare rooms by four facts instead: floor area, bed setup, view and floor level. Photos of the exact room matter more than the name.
What should a family ask before booking?
- What is the exact bed setup in this room type?
- What is the maximum number of adults and children?
- Can an extra bed be added, and what does it cost?
- Is a baby cot available, and is it free?
- Is the room on the ground floor, or are there stairs?
- Do you have a family room or connecting rooms?
For a bigger party, read family rooms, extra beds and occupancy rules and group rooms and connecting rooms for extended families. The guide on child age policies and fees explains why a child’s age can change the price.

A message you can send
Copy this and fill in the blanks:
“Hello, we are two adults and two children, aged ___ and ___. We would like twin beds for the adults and an extra bed for the younger child. Please confirm the room type, maximum occupancy, the floor and the cost of the extra bed.”
Better options when
If you need more than one room and want them close together, ask for connecting rooms rather than hoping for adjacent ones. If the group is large, a villa with separate bedrooms can be simpler than three hotel rooms. Explore more in the hotels, resorts and villas hub.

Questions Malaysians ask
What is the difference between twin and double beds?
Twin means two separate single beds, and double means one bed for two people. Listings sometimes use the words loosely, so ask for the exact bed setup in writing. If two adults who are not a couple, or a parent and teenager, share the room, twin tends to be the more comfortable choice.
Does a deluxe room mean a bigger room?
Not always. Room names such as superior, deluxe and premier are chosen by each hotel, so they do not mean the same size or view across properties. Compare the floor area, the bed setup and the photos listed for the specific room instead of relying on the name.
How do I confirm an extra bed for a child?
Ask the hotel or agency whether the room allows an extra bed, whether it is a roll-away bed or a sofa bed, and whether a child is charged. Also ask for the maximum number of guests in that room type. Write the answer into your booking message.
