Airport pickup fees and hotel transfers

A hotel airport pickup is worth paying for when you land late, travel with children or older parents, or want a named driver at arrivals. Compare it with a private driver and a ride-hailing app, and ask what the fee covers before you accept. The price matters less than the vehicle, the luggage limit and the waiting time.

What should the pickup fee cover?

A fee on its own means little. Ask the hotel to confirm the following in writing:

1. The vehicle type and the number of passengers it carries.
2. Whether all suitcases fit, and whether child seats are available.
3. Whether the driver waits at arrivals with a name sign.
4. How long the driver waits after a delay, and any extra charge.
5. Whether the return trip is included or priced separately.
6. Whether toll, parking and tips are included.

Airports sit at different distances from the hotels. Bali’s Ngurah Rai airport is in Tuban, about 13 km south of Denpasar ^[1], while Lombok’s airport is in Central Lombok, about 6 km from Praya and about 27 km from Mataram ^[2]. A hotel on the far side of an island will carry a longer transfer, so ask about the expected drive time, not just the fee.

Choose by your arrival time and party size, not by the lowest quote. A cheap ride that is hard to find at midnight is not cheap.

Who should take the hotel pickup?

Families, older travellers and anyone landing after a long day benefit fully. A named driver at arrivals removes the search and the negotiation. It also helps if your hotel is in a remote area where cabs are scarce at night.
