Best time to visit Bali for Malaysians

Your leave is limited, so you want the Bali weeks that give sunshine without the heaviest crowds.

IndonesiaQuest Editorial · Updated 20 October 2026

For Malaysians who want reliable weather, the dry months from April to October are the sound choice for Bali. The wet season is still workable if you keep days short and plan indoor backups. The best month for you depends on your leave, your budget and how much crowd you can accept.

This guide turns the season into practical planning. For other islands and activity choices, start at the season, activity and traveller fit hub.

When are Bali’s dry and wet seasons?

Bali’s dry season runs April to October and its wet season November to March, with the peak in June and July and a short rise in tourists in December [1]. That pattern shapes prices, crowds and how easy it is to get a good villa or driver.

Dry months give clearer skies for beaches, rice terraces and sunsets. They also draw the largest crowds, so booking early matters.

What changes in each part of the year?

Period What to expect Planning note
April Start of the dry season, before the peak A good window to compare quotes
June to July Peak weather and peak crowds Book flights and driver early
August to October Dry season continues Compare quotes for quieter weeks
November to March Wetter, quieter, lower rates Keep indoor options and flexible days
December Short rise in visitors Book early if travelling then

Use the table as a starting point, then check current weather closer to your dates.

Is the wet season worth it?

Yes, for the right traveller. Rain tends to come in showers, rates ease and popular sights feel calmer. Plan outdoor activities for the morning, keep a spa, museum or cafe stop ready and accept that roads move slower.

Our guides on whether the wet season is still worth it and a rainy season itinerary show how to arrange the days. Families with young children can still enjoy it with a hotel that has shaded or indoor space.

Want a second pair of eyes on your plan?

If you are choosing between two sets of leave dates, send them over with who is travelling. We will compare them against the season and can pass your brief to a licensed agency for a quote.

What about shoulder months?

Shoulder months sit between the dry peak and the wet season, and they can suit families who want decent weather with less pressure. The shoulder season pros and cons guide lays out the trade-offs.

If your leave falls in a school holiday, expect higher prices even outside the peak. The guide on peak-season surcharges and blackout dates explains what to ask a package provider.

How does Nyepi affect your dates?

Nyepi is Bali’s day of silence. For Nyepi 2026 the island’s quiet day ran from 6am on 19 March to 6am on 20 March, and Ngurah Rai International Airport had no flights in or out [2]. Dates move each year, so confirm the one for your trip.

Our Nyepi planning guide explains what closes and how to avoid a stranded travel day.

Which month should you choose?

Choose the edges of the dry season, April or October, if you want good weather before or after the peak. Choose June and July if the sun matters above all and you can book early. Choose the wet season if your budget is tight and you can accept showers.

Next, write down your two or three possible leave windows and who is travelling. Then check each against the table above and send us the shortlist.

Questions Malaysians ask

When is the cheapest time to visit Bali?

The wet season, from November to March, is the quieter and cheaper stretch, apart from a short December rise. Rates ease and crowds thin, but you need indoor backups for rain. Compare quotes for a few dates, because school holidays can lift prices even then.

Is Bali too crowded in June and July?

Those months are the peak, so roads, beaches and popular temples feel busier and prices rise. Book flights, villas and your driver early. You can soften the crowds by starting days early and choosing quieter areas in the east or north.

Is the rainy season in Bali really that bad?

Rain tends to arrive in showers rather than lasting all day, so days. Plan mornings for activities, keep a spa or museum option ready and accept slower roads. A calm family with a flexible plan can enjoy it. Book a hotel with an indoor space you enjoy for the wetter afternoons.

Should I avoid Nyepi?

Nyepi can be a memorable cultural experience if you plan for it, because the island stays still and the airport closes for a day. Stay in your accommodation, stock up beforehand and avoid flights on that day. Confirm the date for your year before you book.
