What changes in cost when you add children in Bali
You are planning Bali with little ones and want to know which quote lines move when they join.
IndonesiaQuest Editorial · Updated 20 October 2026
Adding children to a Bali trip changes some rows of the quote and leaves others untouched. Flights, rooms, tickets and meals move with age, while the driver and vehicle stay shared across the family. The aim of this guide is to show which is which, so the quote you receive makes sense at first read.
It belongs to our budgets and package decisions hub. If you are still choosing where to stay, start from the Bali destination page and come back with your base in mind.
Which rows of the quote change with children?
Think of the quote as a table. Some rows are shared, some depend on a child’s age and some are decided by the hotel or airline.
| Row | What happens with a child | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Flights from Malaysia | Child and infant fares follow the airline’s own age bands | What is the age cut-off for each fare? |
| Hotel or villa | The room type and bed arrangement may change | Does the child share a bed, or need an extra one? |
| Private driver and vehicle | Shared across the family | Is a child seat available on request? |
| Airport transfers | Shared, unless a larger vehicle is needed | Does the vehicle size change with the party? |
| Sightseeing tickets | Child tickets may follow an age band | Which ages enter free or at a lower rate? |
| Meals | Child portions or shared plates | Is breakfast priced per child? |
| Tourist levy | Set by the Love Bali portal | How are children treated on my date? |
| Insurance | Plans price children differently | Is a child covered under a parent’s plan? |
Use the table as a worksheet. Fill each row with the answer you receive, and mark any row left blank.
How does the tourist levy fit in?
The Love Bali portal lists the international tourist levy at 150,000 Indonesian rupiah (IDR) [1]. The portal offers a Single or Group payment option and an exemption application page [2]. For how children are treated, rely on the portal itself on your travel date, because rules are updated.
Our guide on the Love Bali levy and entry fees in your total cost shows where this line sits in your budget. Keep every voucher on your phone, one for each traveller.
What about hotel rooms and beds?
Rooms are the row where families feel the change first. A child who shares a bed may cost less than one who needs an extra bed or a second room. Cots and connecting rooms depend on the property.
Ask the agency for the room list in writing, including the bed type for each child. Our guide on child pricing age bands on packages explains how age cut-offs can differ between hotels, tickets and transport.
Want a second pair of eyes on your plan?
Send us the ages of the children, the dates and who else is travelling. We will mark the rows that move and, with your consent, pass your brief to a licensed agency for a family quote.
You get a reply from a person who reads your plan, plus a quote from a licensed Malaysian agency if you want one.How do transport and vehicle size change?
A family of five or six may outgrow a standard car, so the quote moves to a larger vehicle. Ask whether the driver can provide a child seat and whether this is included or charged separately.
Roads in Bali are slow, so children get tired faster than the map suggests. Read our Bali drive-time table before you fix a day, and keep drives short when the youngest is napping.
How do you keep a family day on budget?
Choose one main outing and a nearby meal you have already checked. Rushed days lead to paid rescue spends: an extra taxi, a pricey snack stop or an unplanned ticket. A slower day protects both the budget and the children.
If grandparents join, add shaded stops, shorter walks and a rest after lunch. Carry small notes in rupiah for parking, snacks and tips, so you are not hunting for change with a tired child in your arms.
How do you add it all together?
Build the family total row by row: flights, rooms, vehicle, tickets, meals, levy, insurance and the extras outside the package. Our trip cost calculator gives you the structure in ringgit, and the family trip planning worksheet helps you list ages and needs first.
Treat any row the agency leaves blank as a cost you carry yourself. Before you pay a deposit, ask for the written inclusions, exclusions and cancellation terms, and keep them with your booking.

Questions Malaysians ask
Do children pay the Bali tourist levy?
The Love Bali portal states the levy applies to international visitors and offers a Single or Group payment option. It also has an exemption page. Check the portal for how children are treated on your travel date, and keep each voucher on your phone.
Is a child's price on a package much lower?
It depends on the age band and on whether the child shares a bed. Flights, rooms, tickets and meals each define a child differently. Ask the agency for the age cut-off in every row, and write it into your own worksheet.
Do toddlers need their own seat or bed?
Airlines, hotels and vehicles each set their own rule for infants and toddlers. A child car seat may need to be requested in advance with the driver. Ask for each in writing so the quote matches your plan.
How can we keep costs steady on a family day?
Plan one main outing, with a rest stop and a meal you have already checked. Paid rescue spends, such as an extra taxi or a pricey cafe, tend to appear on rushed days. A slower day protects both the budget and the children.
What should grandparents on the same trip expect?
Grandparents change the pace more than the price, because they need shorter walks and more rests. Build in shaded stops, ask for ground-level rooms, and tell the agency about mobility needs when you request the quote.
Can a licensed agency price a family trip?
Yes. Send us the children's ages and your dates, and with your consent we pass the brief to a licensed Malaysian agency that prepares the quote. We are an independent guide, not the agency.
