Private Bali driver: what a package includes
You like the idea of a private driver but cannot tell what the daily rate actually covers.
IndonesiaQuest Editorial · Updated 20 October 2026
A private driver quote is a short list of promises, and the gaps between the lines are where surprises hide. A daily rate can mean a few hours near your base or a full day across the island, depending on what the operator counts.
This checklist sets out what a Bali driver package includes. Use it to read the quote line by line, with the budgets and package decisions hub as the wider map.
We publish no fixed prices because they depend on dates, route and party size. Every row below is a question to put to the operator, not a figure.
What does a private driver package normally cover?
The core is a vehicle, a driver and a set block of hours each day. Around that core, quotes differ on fuel, parking, airport transfers and who pays for the driver’s own costs.
| Row | Check | Ask the operator |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle | Size and type | Seats, luggage space, air conditioning |
| Driver | Daily hours | Start time, finish time, overtime |
| Fuel | Included or extra | Long routes across the island |
| Parking and tolls | Included or extra | Busy sites on the day |
| Airport transfer | Separate or included | Waiting time after a late landing |
| Entry tickets | Paid by you unless listed | Which sites, which fees |
| Meals | Driver’s own meals | Who covers them on long days |
| Child seats | On request | Car seats for young children |
Use the table when quotes arrive. A blank cell is a question.
How do daily hours and overtime work?
A driver is priced by the day for a set block of hours. The quote should state when the day starts and ends, and what an extra hour costs. Agree on this before the first day, because Bali days run longer than the map suggests.
Traffic is the usual reason. Roads are narrow and shared with scooters, ceremonies and school runs, so a short-looking drive can take a large part of the morning. Our driver day checker helps you test whether a planned day fits inside the hours.
Are fuel, parking and tolls inside?
Quotes differ. Some include fuel and parking in the daily rate, and others list them as extras. A long route across the island uses more fuel, and busy sites charge parking at the gate.
Ask the operator to say which items are inside the rate. A written line such as “fuel, parking and tolls included” ends the discussion before the trip.
Are entry tickets and the levy part of the quote?
Entry tickets are normally paid by you at each site, unless the operator lists them as included. Ask for the list of sites on your route and the fees, so you can budget before you go.
Bali also asks international visitors to pay a tourist levy of IDR 150,000 on the official Love Bali portal [1]. The levy is separate from the driver, and sits with the traveller. See the levy and entry fees guide to place it in your total.
What about meals, halal stops and rest breaks?
A driver’s own meals sit inside the daily rate on a day trip. Your meals are your own cost unless the quote lists them.
Muslim travellers should ask the operator for the halal stops on the route, and look for the BPJPH halal logo, the Indonesian halal agency’s label, at each stop. Tell the driver your prayer times at the start of the day, so the route can include them.
Want a second pair of eyes on your plan?
If you are choosing a driver for your family or friends, send us your dates, party and route ideas. We will give the quote a second look and can pass the brief to a licensed agency.
You get a reply from a person who reads your plan, plus a quote from a licensed Malaysian agency if you want one.Does the driver also guide?
A driver knows the roads and timing, but a guide explains temples, rituals and history. If you want explanations at the sites, ask whether a guide is a separate row and whether the driver speaks English or Malay.
Families with grandparents can ask for shorter stops, with a place to sit near the car. Say this when you request the quote.
Private driver or organised package?
A private driver gives control of the route and timing, and shares well across a family or group. An organised package gives a fixed itinerary, with hotels and tickets handled. Our guide on comparing a private-driver trip with an organised package sets the two side by side.

What should you ask before booking a driver?
- What vehicle, and what seats and bags does it carry?
- What are the daily hours, and what is the overtime rate?
- Are fuel, parking and tolls inside the rate?
- Is the airport transfer a separate line?
- Are entry tickets and the levy yours to pay?
- Does the driver speak English or Malay?
- What is the cancellation and date-change policy?
- What is the operator’s MOTAC licence number, if booked through an agency?
The MOTAC licence glossary entry explains how to check an agency.
How do you work well with the driver on the day?
Share the day’s plan the evening before, including meal and prayer times, so the driver can sequence the stops. Agree on a meeting point and time, and keep the driver’s WhatsApp number on your phone.
Respect the hours you agreed. If the group wants to extend a day, ask about the overtime rate first, then decide together.
What happens after you WhatsApp us?
We read your brief, then, with your consent, pass it to a licensed Malaysian travel agency that prepares the quote. We are an independent guide, not the agency, and the referral is disclosed in our footer. Keep the reply for comparison, and ask the agency to confirm hours, fuel and parking in writing.

Questions Malaysians ask
How long is a private Bali driver's working day?
The quote sets a fixed block of hours, and the number differs by operator. Ask for it in writing, along with what happens after the block ends. Overtime may be charged by the hour, so agree on it before the first day.
Are fuel and parking included in a driver quote?
Some quotes include them in the daily rate and others list them separately. Ask which, because long days across the island use more fuel. Parking fees at busy sites can also appear on the day.
Does the driver also act as a guide?
A driver knows the roads and timing, but a guide explains temples and history in depth. If you want explanations, ask whether the driver speaks English or Malay and whether a guide is a separate line.
Who pays for the driver's meals and accommodation on long days?
Day trips normally keep this inside the daily rate. For overnight routes, ask the operator to say who pays, so the line is clear before you travel.
Can a private driver collect me from the airport and take me around?
Yes, operators offer both, but they are separate products. Confirm whether the airport pickup sits inside the daily rate, and give your flight number so the driver can track delays.
