Payment methods and deposits for packages
You are ready to pay for the trip and want to know the money goes where it should.

Pay by a method that leaves a record, to an account in the business’s registered name, against a written invoice that says what the deposit secures. Ask for a receipt the moment you pay. These three steps handle most of the risk in package payments.
This page belongs to our booking responsibility guide. Pair it with the questions to ask before paying a deposit.
What does a deposit actually secure?
A deposit may reserve flights, hotel rooms, a driver or simply the agency’s work. Ask which one, because the answer decides what you can recover if plans change.
Ask for the deposit and the balance to appear in writing with their dates. A schedule you have seen is far easier to follow than one you remember.
Which payment method suits you?
Bank transfer to a company account and card payment both leave a trace. E-wallets can also be traceable when they name the business.
Cash leaves the weakest record, so ask for a signed receipt if you must use it. Whatever you choose, keep the confirmation screen or the transfer slip.
How do you check the payee?
Compare the account name with the business name on your invoice and quotation. A matching name is a good sign, and a personal account for a company sale deserves a question.
Our guide to checking an agency licence with MOTAC shows how to confirm the business itself.
Want a second pair of eyes on your plan?
If you are about to pay a deposit and want a second look at the request, send it on WhatsApp. We can point out what to confirm and pass your brief to a licensed agency.
You get a reply from a person who reads your plan, plus a quote from a licensed Malaysian agency if you want one. What should the invoice say?
It should name the business, list what is included and show the total, the deposit and the due dates. It should also link to the cancellation terms.
Our guide to reading package terms in plain language helps with the wording. If something is unclear, ask before you pay and not after.
Should you pay in ringgit or rupiah?
Ask which currency the agency charges in and when the rate is fixed. Check whether card or transfer fees apply, and who bears them.
A quote in ringgit lets you plan your budget without guessing the exchange rate. If the quote is in another currency, ask when the conversion is set.
What records should you keep?
- The invoice and quotation
- Transfer slips or card statements
- The receipt with business name and date
- Messages about payment, saved with screenshots
Store them in one folder with your booking confirmation. If a dispute arises, a tidy folder makes your request quick to process.
Keep planning
- Booking your Indonesia trip with confidenceYou are about to pay a deposit and want to know who is responsible for what.
- Questions to ask before paying a depositThe quote looks right and you are one transfer away from committing.
- Package terms and conditions in plain languageThe small print feels long, and you only want to know what you are really agreeing to.
- Where to stay: area guidesYou know the island, but the choice of base still decides how tired everyone feels.
- Airport pickup fees and hotel transfersYou land tired, and the hotel's pickup offer arrives with a price you cannot judge.
- Attractions and cultural places in IndonesiaYou have limited leave and a long list of temples, and you want the days to feel unhurried.
Questions Malaysians ask
How big should a deposit be?
There is no single rule, so ask what the deposit secures and when the balance is due. Compare the request with the suppliers it reserves. A deposit tied to named bookings is easier to understand than a round number.
Which payment method is easiest to trace?
Methods that leave a record, such as a bank transfer to a company account or a card payment, are easier to follow up than cash. Keep the slip or statement entry with your confirmation.
Should I pay into a personal account?
Prefer an account in the registered business name shown on your invoice. If the name differs, ask the agency to explain in writing before you pay.
What should a receipt show?
It should show the business name, date, amount, what the payment is for and the balance due. Ask for it straight away, and store it with your booking.
Entry rules, ferry times and prices change. Check the official source or your licensed agency before you book.
