A Bintan weekend with toddlers

You want a short beach break that works around naps, snacks and a tired little one.

IndonesiaQuest Editorial · Updated 20 October 2026

A Bintan weekend with a toddler works when you pick one resort, accept that day one is a travel day, and plan a single small outing. The pool and the beach do the rest. Treat nap time as a fixed point and build the weekend around it.

This guide belongs to our regional itinerary design series and builds on the Bintan destination guide.

What does day one really look like?

Day one is the transfer. From Singapore, the Bintan Resort Ferries crossing to Bandar Bentan Telani takes about an hour and ten minutes, and the ferry has no dedicated children’s play area [1]. Add immigration queues, the road to the resort and check-in, and the afternoon is gone.

Plan for a late lunch, a pool visit and an early dinner. A toddler who arrives calm on day one enjoys day two far more.

What is a nap-friendly weekend rhythm?

Time Day one Day two Day three
Morning Ferry and transfer Breakfast, pool or beach Slow breakfast, last swim
Midday Late lunch Lunch, then nap Check out, transfer
Afternoon Short pool visit One gentle outing, or pool Ferry or flight home
Evening Early dinner, early night Early dinner, bath, bed Home

The weekend has one outing, not three. Choose something near the resort so the nap is not pushed back.

Which resort area suits a toddler?

For a short stay, choose a resort with its own beach, shallow pool and meals on site, so that nobody has to travel after a long morning. Our guide on choosing a Bintan resort area around your transfer explains how the transfer time shapes the choice.

If you are comparing the resort coast with the town side, see Lagoi versus Tanjung Pinang. For a toddler, the resort coast keeps the days simple.

Want a second pair of eyes on your plan?

If you are planning a first beach weekend with a toddler, send us your dates, the child's age and where you are travelling from. We will check the route and can pass your brief to a licensed agency for a quote.

What should you ask the resort?

  • Is a cot available, and is it confirmed in writing?
  • Is there a buggy service, or is the resort walkable with a pram?
  • Does the restaurant offer toddler-friendly food and a high chair?
  • Are quiet hours kept around the pool and the kids’ club?
  • If halal food matters to your family, can the resort list which meals are halal? Ask for the meal list, and look for the Indonesian halal logo.

Write the answers down so that you can show them at check-in.

What should you skip on a toddler weekend?

Skip a full-day tour, a sunrise start and a second resort. Each of them adds a transfer, and a transfer is the one thing a toddler weekend cannot absorb. A short stay is easier to manage when the whole plan fits within the resort grounds and one nearby outing.

For the transfer legs themselves, read what transfer legs a Bintan resort stay needs.

How do you handle the journey home?

Leave a calm margin on the last morning. Pack the night before, keep one set of clothes and snacks in the carry bag, and aim to reach the terminal well ahead of the sailing. A tired toddler on a late ferry makes the end of a good weekend hard, so choose an earlier departure if the schedule allows.

Questions Malaysians ask

Is a Bintan weekend too short with a toddler?

Two nights works if you treat day one as a travel day and keep the plan small. Toddlers cope better with a short route and a familiar resort than with a long list. A single resort, a pool and a beach walk fill a weekend well.

What should I bring for a toddler on the ferry?

Pack snacks, a favourite toy, wipes and a change of clothes in the carry bag, since the ferry has no children's play area. Keep the stroller light enough to fold quickly. Download a few offline videos for the queue at immigration.

Do I need a cot and a buggy at the resort?

Ask both when you book. Cots are subject to availability at some resorts, and larger resorts spread over a wide area can make a buggy very useful. Request them in writing and confirm again a day before you travel.

Entry rules, ferry times and prices change. Check the official source or your licensed agency before you book.
