Choosing a Bintan resort area by transfer
You have a short break from Johor or Singapore, and every extra transfer eats into it.
IndonesiaQuest Editorial · Updated 20 October 2026
On a short Bintan break, pick the resort area that matches your ferry terminal, then check the rest. From Singapore, the crossing to the resort side is short, while the Tanjung Pinang side takes longer.
If you are comparing areas across Indonesia, see the accommodation areas hub. This page puts the transfer first.
Which terminal fits which area?
Resort stays in Lagoi connect through Bandar Bentan Telani. From Tanah Merah in Singapore, the crossing takes about 1 hour [1]. Tanjung Pinang is on a different side of the island, and the fastest ferry from Tanah Merah takes about 1 hour 45 minutes, with an average closer to 2 hours [2].
From Johor, ferry options and schedules change by season, so confirm the route, operator and cut-off with the agency before you choose the resort.
How do the areas compare around a transfer?
| Area | Transfer fit | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Lagoi resort area | Short crossing from Singapore, resorts close to the terminal | Resort feel, fewer local streets |
| Tanjung Pinang | Different terminal, longer crossing | More local life, longer road to resorts |
| Trikora east coast | Longer road after the ferry | Quieter beaches, longer transfer |

How do you plan the legs?
Write each leg in order: home to the departure terminal, check-in, crossing, immigration, road to the resort and check-in. Put a buffer after each leg, because a late leg pushes the next one.
Our Bintan transfer legs guide lists what each leg involves. Ask the agency to confirm the terminal names and the check-in cut-off in writing.
Want a second pair of eyes on your plan?
If your break is built around a ferry time, send us your dates and party. We will take a second look and can pass your brief to a licensed agency to confirm the legs and a quote.
You get a reply from a person who reads your plan, plus a quote from a licensed Malaysian agency if you want one. What are the cut-offs on arrival and departure day?
Ferries have a last sailing, and terminals close check-in before departure. Treat the last sailing as a hard cut-off and arrive with margin.
On departure day, avoid fitting a late breakfast, a spa slot and a long road leg before the ferry. Choose a resort close to the terminal if you want a relaxed last morning.
What is the fallback for a missed ferry?
Ask the agency what happens if you miss a sailing: a later ferry, a night near the terminal, or a rebooked leg. A missed sailing near the end of a long weekend is hard to recover, so a night buffer or an earlier crossing is safer.
For halal food, ask for a meal-by-meal list from the resort. We cannot confirm current schedules or room quality, so check both before you pay.
What should you do next?
Fix your ferry terminal and time first, then pick the area that sits closest to it. For a wider choice, compare Batam and Bintan for a weekend.

Questions Malaysians ask
Which Bintan area is quickest from Singapore?
Lagoi, because the ferry lands at Bandar Bentan Telani and the resorts sit close by. Tanjung Pinang is a different terminal on a different side of the island, and the crossing is longer.
Do I need a fallback for a missed ferry?
Yes. Ferry schedules change by season, and the last sailing is a hard cut-off. Plan a night buffer, or ask the agency what happens if you miss it.
Is Tanjung Pinang or Lagoi better from Johor?
It depends on the route your agency uses. Confirm the terminal, the operator and the road leg before you pick the resort, because the resort area follows the transfer, not the other way round.
How much buffer should I leave on departure day?
Leave a comfortable gap between check-out, the road leg and the ferry cut-off. Ask the agency for the check-in cut-off at the terminal and add a margin for traffic.
