How we label editorial-only destinations
You found a place you love and want to know whether it can be planned through us.
IndonesiaQuest Editorial · Updated 20 October 2026
An editorial-only destination is a place we write a full planning guide for, but where no package is currently offered through IndonesiaQuest. Labuan Bajo and the Komodo islands are the clearest example today. You get the research, the route thinking and the checklist, and you plan the booking side yourself.
We use this label so you always know what a page can and cannot lead to. It keeps our guides honest, and it saves you from reading a page that seems to promise a package that does not exist.
Why do some destinations stay editorial-only?
We write about places Malaysians ask about, even when we are not yet set up to arrange a trip there. A destination is listed for packages only after a licensed agency confirms it can quote it. Until then the page is a guide, and the status says so.
You can see how this fits our wider approach on the editorial policy and in how we check and date our sources. The status label is explained on its own in what “checked on” dates and status labels mean.
What can you do on an editorial-only page?
You can still do the useful planning work.
- Read the route and see the days the trip realistically needs.
- Compare the island with options that are bookable through us, using the region chooser.
- Prepare questions for any operator you contact yourself.
- Send us your dates on WhatsApp if you want a second opinion on the plan.
The page for Labuan Bajo and Komodo shows the label in practice, with the guide, the checks and the date it was last reviewed.
Want a second pair of eyes on your plan?
If Labuan Bajo is on your list, send your dates, party and questions, and we will share what we know and where to verify it. Where a package is not available, we will say so plainly.
You get a reply from a person who reads your plan, plus a quote from a licensed Malaysian agency if you want one. What should you verify yourself?
For Komodo, permits, entry rules and ticketing are managed by the national park and local authorities, and these can change. Always confirm them on the official channels before you pay anyone. Boat trips in the area are run by a range of operators with different standards, so ask each one for a written itinerary.
Ask for these items in writing:
- What the boat, crew and meals include.
- Which islands and stops are on each day.
- Whether park fees and permits are in the price or paid separately.
- The cancellation terms if weather changes the route.
For halal food on a boat trip, ask for a meal-by-meal list and confirm who prepares the food. Do not assume it from a menu alone.
How is this different from other labels?
Other pages carry labels such as current, confirm before booking or discontinued. Those describe how fresh a fact is. Editorial-only describes whether a package exists at all.
Both appear on the page so you can read them together. If you want a deeper guide to the dates, read what “checked on” dates and status labels mean.
What is the next step?
Read the Labuan Bajo guide, note the questions it raises and decide whether the trip fits your leave. If it does, plan the bookable parts yourself with official sources, or message us for a second look at the route.

Questions Malaysians ask
What does editorial-only mean on IndonesiaQuest?
It means we publish a guide to the destination for planning, but no package for it is offered through us at present. You can read, compare and plan, and the page tells you what to verify with official sources.
Can I still ask about Labuan Bajo on WhatsApp?
Yes, you can message us with your dates and questions. We can talk through the route and point you to official sources, and we say plainly when a package is not available.
Will an editorial-only destination become bookable later?
It can change. A destination moves from editorial-only when a licensed agency partner confirms it can be quoted. The status label and the date on the page show where it stands today.
How do I plan Komodo myself?
Start with the national park's official channels for permits and entry rules, since these can change. Then compare licensed operators for boat trips and ask for a written itinerary that lists what is included.
Entry rules, ferry times and prices change. Check the official source or your licensed agency before you book.
