A Bintan family plan with two bases

You want a beach holiday the children enjoy without living out of a suitcase.

IndonesiaQuest Editorial · Updated 20 October 2026

A four-day Bintan stay works best with one resort base for the whole trip, or two bases only when the family wants to see Tanjung Pinang as well as the resort coast. A second base pays off if you move on day two or three, and it loses its value if the move lands on arrival or departure day. Think of the transfer as a small trip in itself.

This guide sits inside our regional itinerary design series and builds on the Bintan destination guide.

When does one base make sense?

One base suits families with toddlers, grandparents who tire easily, or anyone who wants the pool and beach as the main event. Children settle faster when the room, the pool and the breakfast hall stay the same. Parents stop repacking, and nap time stays predictable.

The resort coast around Lagoi also has the widest choice of kids’ clubs and beach space in one place. If the holiday goal is rest, one base wins.

When does a second base earn its place?

A second base helps when your family wants a taste of the town side of Bintan, such as Tanjung Pinang, plus a resort stay. It also helps when two resorts suit different ages, for example a quiet beachfront for the first nights and a livelier one with a water park for the last.

Before you commit, read how Lagoi compares with Tanjung Pinang so the second base has a clear reason.

What does a realistic day-by-day rhythm look like?

Day Rhythm What to protect
Day one Travel, check in, pool, early dinner Energy for day two
Day two One activity in the morning, long pool afternoon Nap and rest hour
Day three Move to the second base after breakfast, or a half-day outing Light afternoon
Day four Slow breakfast, late checkout if allowed, transfer A calm margin before the ferry or flight

Each day carries one planned activity, not three. Children enjoy the resort more when there is time for the pool in between.

How long does the journey take?

From Singapore, the Bintan Resort Ferries crossing from Tanah Merah to Bandar Bentan Telani takes about an hour and ten minutes, with the first departure around 08:10 and the last around 17:00 [1]. Add the road transfer to your resort, plus queues at immigration on both sides.

If you start from Batam, there is no direct link to Bintan, and the road route uses a car ferry from Telaga Punggur to Tanjung Uban that takes about 30 minutes [2]. The detail of each leg is in our Bintan transfer legs guide.

What should you ask before booking two bases?

  • Does the second resort allow early check-in so the move does not eat the afternoon?
  • Is the transfer between the two included, and is the car seat-friendly?
  • Which meals are included at each base, and is there a halal option if you need one?
  • How long is the drive to the ferry terminal on the last morning?

Halal food needs checking resort by resort: ask for the meal list, and look for the Indonesian halal logo where it matters to your family.

How do you decide?

Count the nights, not the days. With three nights, a split of two nights and one night rarely works because the move takes half a day. Either stay put, or accept that the second base is for a single clear purpose.

If you are not sure, use the region chooser to test whether Bintan is the right fit for this trip at all.

Questions Malaysians ask

Is four days and three nights too long for one Bintan resort?

For families with young children, one resort can fill the whole stay if the pool, beach and kids' club are good. A second base suits families who want to see Tanjung Pinang or the east coast. Decide by asking whether anyone will be bored by day three.

Does a second base waste a day?

It costs half a day only if you check out after breakfast and arrive for a late lunch. The cost rises when the move falls on the arrival or departure day. Put the move in the middle of the stay, on day two or three.

What should we do on the ferry arrival afternoon?

Keep it empty. After a ferry and a road transfer, children want water and food, not a tour. A pool, an early dinner and an early night make day two much easier for everyone.

Entry rules, ferry times and prices change. Check the official source or your licensed agency before you book.
