Yogyakarta package: tickets, drivers and what is included

You want temples and culture, and a quote that spells out who pays for what.

IndonesiaQuest Editorial · Updated 20 October 2026

A Yogyakarta package should say who buys the temple tickets, which days a driver is booked and how you move between the city and the temples. Those three lines explain the gap between one quote and the next. Our budgets and package decisions hub shows how to compare quotes in general, and this page applies the method to Yogyakarta.

If you are still deciding where to stay or how long to spend, start with the Yogyakarta destination guide. Come back here once you have a quote in hand.

What does a Yogyakarta package cover?

Packages differ because the components differ. The table lists each row you should be able to find in a written quote, with a note on what to ask.

Component What to look for Ask or check
Airport pickup and drop-off Which airport, meeting point Waiting time for late flights
Private car and driver Vehicle size, daily hours Overtime rule, free days, luggage space
Fuel, tolls and parking Stated as included or extra Who pays on temple days
Hotels Named property, room type, breakfast Child beds, distance to the old city
Temple tickets Borobudur, Prambanan, other sites Grounds only or upper levels, who buys
Guides Temple guide, driver-guide Language, fee, whether tips are extra
Cultural shows Evening performances Ticket class and pickup
Meals Breakfast, lunches, dinners Halal handling, road stops
Flights from Malaysia Separate booking unless stated Whether the price is land-only
Insurance, tips, extras Left to you What you arrange yourself

If a row is missing, ask for it in writing. A missing row is a question, not a saving.

Who buys the Borobudur and Prambanan tickets?

This line causes the biggest confusion. The official ticket site lists tickets for Borobudur, Prambanan and the Ramayana Ballet [1]. A quote can include them, leave them for you to buy or hand you a link, so ask which one applies.

Ask what each ticket covers. Temple entry can mean the grounds only or access to the upper levels, and some visits use timed sessions. Check the current rules on the official site before you fix your dates, because they change.

If you want sunrise, read our Borobudur sunrise day plan first. A sunrise start can add a separate ticket, an early pickup and a hotel choice near the temple.

How should you read the driver line?

A driver line should state the vehicle, the daily hours, the overtime rule and what is covered for fuel, tolls and parking. Temple days run long, and a driver waiting at the car park is working hours that someone pays for. Our explainer on how a private driver day works covers the terms.

Ask whether the driver also acts as a guide, and whether the guide fee at the temples is separate. Ask what the plan is for the hottest part of the day, because grandparents and children slow down in the heat.

Which airport and transfer does the quote assume?

Flights to Yogyakarta may use more than one airport, and the road into the city differs. Our guide on Adisutjipto and YIA explains which flights use which. Ask the operator to name the airport on the transfer line and to confirm it against your flight.

For a late arrival, ask about a waiting time and a hotel that expects you. A long drive after a late landing is easier with a booked pickup and a clear meeting point.

Want a second pair of eyes on your plan?

If your Yogyakarta quote lists temples but not who buys the tickets, send it over. We will give the inclusions a second look and, with your consent, pass your brief to a licensed agency.

You get a reply from a person who reads your plan, plus a quote from a licensed Malaysian agency if you want one.

Where should you stay, and does it change the price?

The base changes the drive to each temple, so it changes the quote. A hotel near Borobudur shortens the sunrise morning but puts you farther from the city. Our guide on staying near Borobudur or in the city compares them.

Ask for the exact hotel name, room type and breakfast. If you split nights between two areas, tell the agency early, because a second base adds a transfer day.

How do you plan halal meals and prayer breaks?

Ask the agency for a meal-by-meal list for every temple day, including road stops. Look for the BPJPH halal logo, which is the label of Indonesia’s halal authority. We name a venue as certified only with evidence.

Tell the operator your prayer times so the driver can plan stops. A day that fits temples, meals and prayer comfortably is easier to enjoy than one that squeezes them all in.

What can sit outside the price?

Some costs sit outside a package even when the headline looks complete. Check for these:

  • Temple tickets, if not named as included.
  • Guide fees at the temples and for any walking tour.
  • Evening cultural show tickets.
  • Travel insurance and the arrival card steps.
  • Tips for the driver, guide and hotel staff.

Put your quote into the package inclusion comparator to see these rows in one table.

What should you ask before you pay?

Put these questions to each operator, and keep the answers in writing:

  1. Is the price per person, per room or per vehicle?
  2. Which hotels are named, and can they be swapped?
  3. Which days is the driver booked, and for what hours?
  4. Which temple tickets, guides and meals are included?
  5. What is the cancellation rule if a flight moves?
  6. Who do I call on the road if the car is late?

A quote that answers all six is easier to compare. A quote that avoids one is worth a second look before you pay a deposit.

What happens after you WhatsApp us?

We read your brief, then, with your consent, pass it to a licensed Malaysian travel agency, which prepares the quote. We are an independent guide, not the agency, and the referral is disclosed in our footer.

Keep the reply for comparison, and ask the agency to confirm inclusions, exclusions and cancellation terms in writing.

Questions Malaysians ask

Are Borobudur tickets included in a Yogyakarta package?

Only if the quote names them. Some packages list temple entry as included, others leave it for you to pay on the day. Ask whether the ticket covers the grounds only or also the upper levels, and who buys it.

Why does the airport matter for a Yogyakarta quote?

Flights may use more than one airport, and the drive into the city differs by airport and time of day. Ask the operator which airport your flight uses and whether the transfer line matches it, especially for a late arrival.

Is a driver included for the whole Yogyakarta stay?

Check day by day. A driver may cover only the airport legs and sightseeing days. Ask about daily hours, overtime and whether the driver waits at each temple, and keep the answers in writing.

How do I handle halal meals around Borobudur and Prambanan?

Ask the agency for a meal-by-meal list covering every temple day, and look for the BPJPH halal logo at restaurants. We name a venue as certified only with evidence. Plan prayer breaks around the temple visits.

Does a sunrise visit cost extra?

A sunrise plan can add a separate ticket, an early pickup and a hotel choice near the temple. Ask whether these are in the quote, and compare it with a daytime visit before deciding what suits your group.

What do I send to get a Yogyakarta quote?

Send your dates, the number of adults and children, ages, flight times, whether you want sunrise or daytime temples, halal needs and a ringgit budget. That is enough for a licensed agency to price the days line by line.

Entry rules, ferry times and prices change. Check the official source or your licensed agency before you book.
