Nongsa resorts: pros and cons near the ferry
You want a pool weekend close to the boat, without a long road transfer on the last day.
IndonesiaQuest Editorial · Updated 20 October 2026
Nongsa resorts suit a pool-first weekend where the ferry leg is short and the days are slow. They are weaker if you want food streets and malls on your doorstep. Nongsa has the majority of Batam’s resorts [1], so it is where most resort stays happen.
What are the pros?
The main pro is simplicity. Batam Fast runs daily ferries to the Nongsapura terminal from Tanah Merah in Singapore, and the terminal mainly serves the adjacent resorts [2]. Once you are checked in, pool, sea and meals sit in one place.
Resorts suit families with young children and parents who prefer not to move around. You also avoid a long road transfer on arrival day.
What are the cons?
Nongsa is quieter, so food and shopping outside the resort are limited. You may need a car for any outing, and resort meals can cost more than city eateries.
| Question | Nongsa resort | City base |
|---|---|---|
| Ferry transfer | Short if you use the Nongsapura terminal | Depends on terminal |
| Food choice | Mostly in the resort | Wide |
| Pace | Slow, pool-centred | Busy |
| Best for | Families, couples, rest | Shoppers, food lovers |
Want a second pair of eyes on your plan?
If a resort weekend with an easy ferry leg sounds right, send us your departure point, dates and party. We can talk through the options and pass your brief to a licensed agency for a quote.
You get a reply from a person who reads your plan, plus a quote from a licensed Malaysian agency if you want one.Who should choose Nongsa?
Choose it when rest is the goal and you are happy to eat most meals at the resort. Choose a city base instead if you want to compare a wide range of restaurants. Our Batam Centre, Nagoya and Nongsa comparison sets all three side by side.
What should you check before booking?
Ask whether the resort runs a shuttle from your ferry terminal, what the check-in time is on a morning arrival, and whether the pool suits young children. Ask for a halal-friendly meal list too, and look for the BPJPH halal logo.
We could not verify current room rates or named resorts, so ask the agency for the property and a recent photo set. For the transfer itself, read Batam ferry arrival and resort transfer planning.
What if you are coming from Johor?
We could not confirm a direct ferry from Johor Bahru to Nongsa, so treat that leg as something to ask about. Start with our Batam first-time guide and then confirm the exact route with your agency.
Keep planning
- Batam, planned for Malaysian travellersYou have a weekend, a short ferry ride in mind and a fair worry about value.
- Batam Centre, Nagoya or Nongsa for a short breakYou have a weekend, a ferry timetable and three areas that all claim to be the easy choice.
- Batam ferry arrival and resort transfer planningYou are crossing from Johor or Singapore and want the first hour in Batam to feel easy.
- Canggu as a Bali base, honestlyYou have been to Bali before and want surf cafes and rice-field views, but not a stressful commute.
- Kuta Lombok: the south coast baseYou have seen Bali already and want open beaches, quiet evenings and a slower rhythm on Lombok.
- Nusa Dua: the resort enclave, explainedYou want an easy, contained resort stay for the family and wonder what lies beyond the gates.
Questions Malaysians ask
Is Nongsa good for a family weekend?
It can be, because resorts offer pools, space and simple meals in one place. Check the children's pool, room layout and meal plans with each property. If your family wants to wander food streets, a city base fits better.
Can I reach Nongsa from Johor Bahru?
We could not verify a direct Johor Bahru to Nongsa ferry. The sources we found describe the Nongsa ferry from Singapore, so ask your agency how a Malaysian departure connects.
Is food limited outside the resort?
Options beyond the resort gate are fewer than in Nagoya or Batam Centre, so budget for resort meals or arrange a car for dinner. Ask about halal-friendly menus and look for the BPJPH logo.
Do I need to leave the resort at all?
Not if a pool weekend is the goal. If you want malls, markets or massages, plan one outing by car and keep the rest relaxed. See our Batam first-time guide for ideas.
