Batam and Bintan costs: ferry, hotel, spa
You want a short break from Johor that fits a budget you can explain to the family.
IndonesiaQuest Editorial · Updated 20 October 2026
A Batam or Bintan short-break cost is built from six lines: the ferry, the transfers at each end, the hotel or resort, meals, a spa or activities, and extras. Each line can sit inside a package or outside it, so a low headline price may leave some lines for you to pay. Our budgets and package decisions hub explains how to read quotes in general.
We give no fixed prices here, because they change with dates, party size and season. This page shows the structure so you can compare quotes in ringgit yourself.
What lines make up a Batam or Bintan break?
The table shows each cost line, where it sits in a quote, and what to ask. Mark every line in your own quotes as included, excluded or unclear.
| Cost line | Batam break | Bintan break | Ask or check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ferry | Return crossing to a Batam terminal | Return crossing to a Bintan terminal | Class, ticket type, terminal fees |
| Terminal transfer | Pickup to the hotel | Pickup and ride to the resort | Shared or private, waiting time |
| Stay | Town or coastal hotel | Resort | Room type, breakfast, fees at checkout |
| Meals | Paid as you go | Plan may bundle meals | Halal handling, drinks |
| Spa | Treatment or voucher | Resort spa credit | Length, therapist, tips |
| Local transport | Taxi or car and driver | Resort shuttle or car | Hours, stops, who pays tolls |
| Insurance, tips, extras | Left to you | Left to you | What you arrange yourself |
If a line is missing from a quote, ask for it in writing. A missing line is a question, not a saving.
How is the ferry priced?
The ferry is the one line that both breaks share. One operator’s booking page offers one-way, round-trip and open tickets, in economy and business classes, with separate fares for adults and children [1]. The ticket type and class you pick change the fare.
Ask each quote which class and ticket type it assumes. Ask whether terminal fees are inside the price and whether baggage beyond the allowance is extra. Check current timetables on the operator’s site before you fix your dates.
How does the transfer line differ between the two islands?
On Batam, the ride from the terminal to the hotel is short or long depending on where you stay. Our guide on Batam versus Bintan compares the two breaks. On Bintan, the resort can sit a longer ride from the terminal, and a stay needs more than one leg.
Ask each operator to write every leg and name who arranges it. A quote that shows only the ferry and the room leaves the transfers unpriced, and you pay for them on arrival.
What does a hotel or resort line include?
A town hotel prices the room and breakfast. A resort can add meals, activities and shuttles, so its headline looks larger but covers more. Compare like with like by listing what each includes.
Ask for the room type, the breakfast, the child policy and any fee charged at checkout. If grandparents or toddlers are in the group, ask about lifts and the walk from the car to the room.
Want a second pair of eyes on your plan?
If your budget is fixed and your Batam or Bintan quotes look hard to compare, send them over. We will give the cost lines a second look and, with your consent, pass your brief to a licensed agency.
You get a reply from a person who reads your plan, plus a quote from a licensed Malaysian agency if you want one.How should you read the spa line?
A spa line can mean a booked treatment, a voucher or a discount. The treatment, its length and the therapist arrangement change the value. Our guide on how to choose and tip for massage in Batam covers what to check.
Ask whether tips are separate and whether the quote lets you swap treatments. Put the spa on its own line so you can remove it if the budget is tight.
Which lines stay unpriced?
Some costs sit outside a quote even when the total looks complete. Check for these:
- Terminal fees and baggage beyond the ferry allowance.
- Meals not covered by the plan, and drinks.
- Spa tips and extra treatments.
- Shopping, souvenirs and snacks.
- Travel insurance and the arrival card steps.
Our guides on Batam short-break packages and Bintan resort packages show these rows against each package.
How do you compare a Batam quote with a Bintan quote?
Match the days, the party size and the starting point. Then list every line for each, mark what is included, and add the missing lines to the shorter quote before you compare totals. Use the trip cost calculator to see the total in ringgit.
Compare what the break feels like as well as the figure. A cheaper break with a long transfer may cost you an afternoon.
How do you keep the break inside a ringgit ceiling?
Set one ceiling for the whole break before you ask for quotes. Then ask each operator to show which lines sit inside it and which do not.
Keep a margin for meals, tips and small purchases, because these are the lines that drift. Review the list once more a few days before you travel, so a changed sailing or a swapped room does not surprise you at the terminal.
What happens after you WhatsApp us?
We read your brief, then, with your consent, pass it to a licensed Malaysian travel agency, which prepares the quote. We are an independent guide, not the agency, and the referral is disclosed in our footer.
Keep the reply for comparison, and ask the agency to confirm inclusions, exclusions and cancellation terms in writing.

Questions Malaysians ask
What are the main cost lines in a Batam or Bintan break?
The main lines are the ferry, the transfers at each end, the hotel or resort, meals, a spa or activities, and tips and extras. A quote may fold some of them together, so ask for each line to be shown separately before you compare.
Is a Bintan resort break more expensive than a Batam hotel break?
The two are built differently, so compare line by line. A resort can bundle meals and activities, while a town hotel leaves meals to you. Ask each operator for the same days and the same party, then compare the totals after adding what is missing.
Why do ferry tickets differ so much between quotes?
Ticket type, class, direction and the departure port can all change the fare, and adult and child fares are priced separately. Ask which class and ticket type each quote assumes, and whether terminal fees are inside the price.
How do I keep a Batam or Bintan break within budget?
Set a ringgit ceiling for the whole break first, then ask each operator for the lines inside it. Keep a margin for meals, tips and extras, and use a calculator to see the total before you pay a deposit.
What should I send to get a Batam or Bintan quote?
Send your dates, the number of adults and children, ages, where you start (Johor, Singapore or elsewhere), halal needs, spa interest and a ringgit budget. That is enough for a licensed agency to price the break line by line.
